Bojan Žlender is a professor and researcher at the University of Maribor, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering and Architecture. Since 2012, he is has been the head of the Institute for Geotechnics and since 1995, he has been the head of the Laboratory for Soil Mechanics, which is a part of the Geotechnical Institute. He is the author of more than 100 scientific articles in the field of geomechanics and geotechnical engineering. He is a co-editor of the international magazine Acta Geotechnica Slovenica and a reviewer of numerous international journals. As a professor in geotechnical engineering he give lectures at all three levels of study. In recent years, he also has had several lectures at foreign universities, and he was also a member of the study committee and the committee of the joint doctoral program of the six universities “Geo-Engineering and Water Management”. It is active in many domestic and international associations in the field of geotechnics, such as: Slovenian Geotechnical Society (SloGeD), International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), International Association for Engineering Geology and the Environment (IAEG), International Geosynthetics Society (IGS) and some other. He is also a member of the board of directors of the European Platform of Geotechnical Institutes (ELGIP) and since 2018 he is their president. Bojan Žlender is also an authorized engineer in the Slovenian Chamber of Engineers (IZS). He has many years of experience in the design of building structures and the implementation of geological and geotechnical research and geotechnical planning. This is reflected in numerous geological and geotechnical reports and construction projects, and also with numerous project reviews, for various subscribers.
